Today marks 65 years of marriage for Queen Elizabeth II and Philip Mountbatten. This is the first time a British monarch has hit the 65-year-anniversary milestone! The two wed in 1947 at Westminster Abbey and, of course, following the ceremony the pair headed to Buckingham Palace to wave before the crowds. 2,000 guests attended the ceremony — similar in size to the guest list for Will and Kate’s 2011 nuptials. The daughter of the Sultan of Brunei, one of the world’s wealthiest men, got married yesterday in a lavish ceremony. The wedding took place at the Throne Hall of Istana Nurul Iman in Brunei, a 1,700-room palace! Princess Hajah Hafizah Sururul Bolkiah is one of 12 children of the Sultan and the first to get married since 2007. Today marks the 31st anniversary of Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s wedding day in 1981. Who could forget when Diana stepped out of the glass carriage and made wedding history? The couple was married in St. Paul’s Cathedral in front of 3,500 live guests and an estimated 750 million people watching on TV. Relive the memory with our favorite details from their day.

The wedding of Kate Middleton and Prince William was undoubtedly anticipated, as was the dress she would wear. Sketches by the world’s top bridal designers hit newsstands as they predicted what style of dress Kate might choose for her big day. It was Alexander McQueen by Sarah Burton that she so gracefully wore and that has influenced bridal fashion.

The controversy over the fact that the gown has it’s own Wikipedia page has sparked great debate since it’s publication on the site, and at the 2012 Wikimania conference last week. While I will concede that it could be part of Kate’s main Wikipedia page, the reasons for uproar about this are more absurd than the argument itself. This is nuts!

The page was requested for deletion immediately after it appeared. Comments included, “This is frankly trivial, and surely isn’t notable enough to be on Wikipedia.” Another commenter added, “The sheer presence of this article is one of the lowest points ever reached by Wikipedia! What amazes me is that there’s acculturated people (since the article was well written) who has such interests, and free time to lose to devoted themselves for such totally irrelevant arguments.”

Jimmy Wales, Wikipedia’s co-founder and man responsible for approving the “Wedding Dress of Kate Middleton” page defended the article at last week’s Wikimania conference. He referred to the gown’s predicted long-term impact on fashion and said, “Fashion may seem frivolous, but it’s an industry worth billions and wedding attire is a significant portion of that business.”

This iconic gown, reminiscent of Grace Kelly, will influence dress designs for years, and the article is interesting, well-written, and well-referenced for those who are interested. Wales also commented on the fact that the page is welcomed by fashion students, designers, brides-to-be, and people who are fascinated with royal history.

Sadly, some not-so-loyal royal fans have placed Kate, and her dresses, up for ridicule. I say jealousy, others may say she is part of a society that is spoiled. Regardless, her grace, charm, and poise (not to mention attractive figure and sense of style), has captivated so many others. So much so, that we want to know what she is wearing, who made it, and where we can get the look.

This Thursday, a slice of Will and Kate’s one-year anniversary cake will go up for auction, MSNBC.com reports. Minimum bid starts at 1,000 pounds ($1,620). It’s not the first time a slice of royal wedding cake has hit the auction block. In 2008, a slice of Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s cake went for $1,830.

And everyone remembers the scene from Seinfeld where Elaine eats Queen Victoria’s wedding cake out of her bosses office, right?

A slice of cake from the wedding of Prince William (1982- ) and Kate Middleton (1982- ) with a printed compliments slip from TRH The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall.

The cake was designed by Fiona Cairns for the Wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton on Friday 29th April 2011 and is in a presentation tin commissioned and designed by Peter Windett and Sally Mangum. The tin measures 5½” x 4¼ x 2”.

A slice of cake was presented to each of the 650 close friends and family who attended the afternoon reception at Buckingham Palace.

Accompanied by the 16 page Order of Service from Westminster Abbey which includes the vows, hymns, prayers and Blessing from the Wedding.

Believed to be the first piece of William and Kate’s wedding cake to appear at auction.

In fine condition.
