For their Cambridge, Massachusetts wedding, Jane and Jason got creative and did a little Glee-inspired choreography!

Their First Dance Song: The Glee version of “Lucky” by Jason Mraz

How they made it special: “We reenacted the scene from Glee where the football player sings a duet with the cheerleader,” said the bride. “Jason had a guitar and I stood next to him as we lip sang to our pre-recorded song. Then we did did a choreographed dance for the remainder of the song.” By recording their own first dance song they were able to change the words to the song so it really reflected them as a couple.

Their First Dance Song: Meegan and Jonathan danced to “History in the Making” by Darius Rucker (a.k.a Hootie, from Hootie and the Blowfish for those of you who don’t know!). The couple choreographed their first dance, and even managed to pull off a lift!

How They Made It Special: “This song was always meaningful to us,” said the bride. “One of our favorite lines to the song is ‘this could be my last first kiss’  I had the inside of Jonathan’s wedding band engraved: My last first kiss.”

Their First Dance Song: Lauren and Josh danced to The Tallest Man on Earth’s cover of Bob Dylan’s original “I Want You” — as performed and recorded by Josh! It was totally in-character for this music-oriented groom, who’s actually been singing all the way through his relationship with Lauren…

Why It Was Meaningful: It was only appropriate that Josh’s pipes make an appearance during the couple’s first dance. They first met at a karaoke bar — “he sang ‘I Believe in a Thing Called Love” by The Darkness and was great at it!” Lauren says. To top it off, right before Josh proposed to Lauren, he surprised her with a live performance of “Noticed” by Mute Math in front of all their friends and family. “After that, he said he had to ask me something, asked me to come up, knelt down on one knee (with microphone and all) and pulled out a box with our initials engraved on it,” Lauren says. “It was wonderful!”

Their First Dance Song: Janna and Loyd chose the 90s rock love song “Good Things” by the BoDeans.

Favorite Lyrics: “See I can see good things for you and I / Give I can give love and attention / Give I can give all time away / Only to one heart I can give today”

Their Wedding Music: “We had originally planned to DIY the reception music with an iPod,” Janna says. “Eventually we changed our minds and ended up hiring a DJ — but by that point we had already compiled a list of nearly 200 songs!” The couple asked the DJ to focus on the songs from their playlist. “In the end it was a fabulous compromise. We didn’t have to worry about any technical mishaps with the sound, because there was a professional at the controls. But, since we had picked all the music, every song that came on seemed to prompt the reaction ‘Oh I LOVE this song!!’

Their First Dance Song: Ashley and Nikolay have “very different tastes in music,” Ashley says, so they went with a classic love song: “La Vie En Rose” by Louis Armstrong.

The Dance Party Music: The couple hired a jazz band to play upbeat music all their guests could enjoy. “We avoided any of your ‘typical’ wedding music (no Brick House or Chicken Dance) and said absolutely no ‘Top 40,’” Ashley says.

Mary and Joe’s first dance: We chose the song “One True Vine” by Wilco, which is one of our favorite bands,” Mary says.

The father-daughter dance: “My dad and I danced to “Harvest Moon” by Neil Young, who I grew up listening to with my dad.”

The mother-son dance: Joe and his mom danced to a version of “New York, New York” recorded by Joe’s dad’s jazz band, The Lou Giovi Quartet. Joe’s dad can even be heard playing the organ on the track!

The dinner and dance party playlist: The Beatles, The National and Broken Social Scene played while everyone ate dinner. Later in the night, guests danced to music from the 80s to present, including songs by Lady Gaga, Bruce Springsteen and LCD Soundsystem.

Their First Dance Song: Mary and Sean, a super-creative couple (they founded a design and marketing studio together), knew all along that they wanted to share their first dance to “Home” by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. The upbeat folk rock song was the perfect complement to their vintage/rustic wedding.

The Live Performance: The couple had their live band learn the song just for the wedding. “We weren’t sure the band would be able to play [the song],” Mary says.”But my lord, did they ever. The Sevilles blew us away. The dance was probably the most fun moment of the day. We had so much fun that the lead singer said he had never seen two newlyweds enjoy their first dance as much as us. I told him it was all because of their amazing performance.”

Cara and Stephen used a romantic mix of songs by Jack Johnson, Michael Buble, Andrea Bocelli and the Beatles played on an acoustic guitar as the soundtrack for their ceremony. It only made sense to continue the mellow vibe with a Buble song for their first dance: “Everything.” For the rest of the spotlight dances, the couple chose even more classic songs: “The Way You Look Tonight” by Frank Sinatra for the father-daughter dance and “I Hope You Dance” by Lee Ann Womack for the mother-son dance.

Their First Dance Song: Katie and Rob danced to “These are the Days” by Van Morrison. “We wanted to do something that was unique and classic,” Katie says. “Van Morrison is our favorite band, and it’s just a beautiful song.” A violinist who had performed earlier even played along with the recorded song for an interesting, romantic sound.

Their Ceremony Music: The bridesmaids walked down the aisle to a theme from Forrest Gump called “The Feather Song” (“It’s just a really sweet simple song from my favorite movie of all time,” Katie says). Then, “Fields of Gold” played when Katie made her entrance (“We have always loved that song, especially the line ‘I’ve never made promises like this / And there are some that I’ve broken / But I swear in the days still left /We will walk in fields of gold’” she says). Finally, the recessional was set to “Lucky” by Colbie Callait and Jason Mraz — “a fun and lighthearted song that seemed like an appropriate way to celebrate being married to your best friend.”

Their Dance Party: At Patricia and Michael’s reception, a 10-piece band played a mix of contemporary hits, 80s tunes, Michael Buble wedding favorites, a few Irish jigs and a Sinatra song for Michael’s dance with his mom and grandmother. “Everyone was on the dance floor,” Patricia says.

Their First Dance Song: The couple danced to “The Way I Am” by Ingrid Michaelson. “It’s a song we always both liked and I would often sing to Mike,” Patricia says. Patricia’s singing skills came in handy later in the evening, too…

The Surprise Performance: Patricia broke out her microphone and sang The Beatles’ “Til There Was You” to Michael. “This was a particularly special part of our wedding since my paternal grandmother had been a professional singer and my maternal grandmother, who unexpectedly passed away a few months before the wedding, had loved that song,” Patricia says.
