We love surprise proposals – so much that we’re hosting one on our site! A young man (who must go unnamed so we that don’t ruin the surprise) contacted us about creating an ad with a proposal to his girlfriend. Although she’s not yet engaged, she’s already hooked on The Knot Magazine and TheKnot.com.

So here are the details: At 4 p.m. ET tomorrow, a big rollover banner will appear on TheKnot.com revealing the mystery man and a proposal to his girlfriend. He’s promised to video the entire proposal and send us the clip too — so check back Monday here and on our Facebook page to watch it!

If you’re out of ideas for your over-the-top public proposal and you have $20,000 lying around, then consider purchasing the all-inclusive flash mob proposal for sale on Gilt City right now.

The deal is being offered by Artisanal Fromagerie and Bistro on Park Avenue in New York City. While it costs a pretty penny, the deal includes “dancers who will pose as diners,” a professional videographer, and, of course, a five-course meal by the restaurant’s award winning chef.

On the one hand you wouldn’t have to worry about about making sure your proposal goes off without a hitch (did I mention the flash mob will be professionally choreographed to the music of your choice?). While on the other hand, you’ll have to adhere to the terms and conditions of the sale, like you must make the proposal on December 12 (12/12/12!), which might take away some of the spontaneity.

The days leading up to a proposal are generally full of angst for the person who is doing the asking. From wondering what to say to fretting over the response you’ll get, millions of thoughts are running through the person’s mind. For Rosana Gambino, she was most concerned about the effect the oncoming hurricane would have on her proposal plans to girlfriend Jerilyn Sawyer. “Frankenstorm was on her way,” Rosana wrote on her blog. “As the day grew nearer, so did the looming threat of my beautifully planned proposal being washed down the drains of Massachusettes Avenue.”

But Sandy didn’t get in the way of this awesome flash mob proposal. The couple’s anniversary was during October and Jerilyn wanted to attend a ghost tour to reenact their first date. Jerilyn found a haunted tour in Harvard Square and the couple decided to get tickets and invite family along. Little did Jerilyn know, Rosana was planning to propose that night. Rosana had gotten together a flashmob made up of various dance groups at Northeastern University where she went to school. Rosana had hired a DJ for that night and had attended several rehearsals leading up to the date, while Jerilyn unsuspectedly thought she was at dinner with friends. On October 28, as everyone arrived at the ghost tour Jerilyn heard music playing in the square and soon 15 dancers were performing right before them. When “Marry You” by Bruno Mars came on Rosana danced a solo towards Jerilyn and asked her to marry her. “The rain and chill in the air from the incoming Hurricane Sandy didn’t seem to matter anymore,” she says. “All I could feel was complete shock.”

Jerilyn says she was “blown away” by the proposal — now referred to as the Harvard Square Flashmob Proposal.

Slight break from wedding planning talk for one small post to discuss something that’s bothered me ever since I got engaged. After that night, suddenly, Oren went from being my boyfriend (a nice, simple, easy title) to my fiance.

Now, there’s obviously nothing wrong with Oren becoming my fiancé — I was thrilled that he wanted that title and could not be more excited that we were engaged.

But, ever since, I’ve felt so weird calling him that. Whenever I say “my fiance” I feel as though I’m bragging in a very snobby way. In fact, sometimes I still consciously call him my boyfriend just to avoid using the word. Other times, I refer to him as Oren to complete strangers who have no idea who this Oren person is. Also, I don’t think I’ll feel this way when I call him my husband, so, what gives?

I’m not alone in these feelings. Our editor who’s engaged says the same and refers to her fiance and “her man” to avoid the word. Also, the awesome Ellie Kemper wrote a hilarious article earlier this year explaining her distaste for the word and saying she would refer to her fiance as “gloob.”

I think it’s high time we come up with a new word. One of my bridesmaids used to refer to her fiance as her “husband-elect,” which I’m a fan of.

Let’s start a campaign now to come up with an improved way to refer to the guy you’re about the marry, who is no longer your boyfriend and not yet your husband.

Thoughts? Should fiancé be replaced? What’s the best replacement word? Gloob? Husband-elect? Something even better?
