Here’s one we’ve never heard before: Groom-to-be James Jaramillo proposed to his girlfriend of three years, Anne Mudlaff, by creating a custom piece of art resembling her face — made entirely out of pushpins! According to the video, he used 16,500 push pins to create the masterpiece and it took him a whopping 64 hours to create it. One of our favorite comedians from Saturday Night Live, Andy Samberg is officially off the market. Us Weekly is reporting that Samberg is engaged to his girlfriend of five years, singer-songwriter Joanna Newsom.

According to a friend of the couple, 34-year-old Samberg had a crush on 31-year-old Newsom before they met and would attend her shows — awww!

Now for two important questions about their wedding — will Lonely Island perform at the reception? And will the wedding take place “on a boat”?  If so, can we come? Congratulations Andy and Joanna!

We’re so excited for Kelly and her new fiancé Brandon, and now even more about her ring! She announced their engagement this weekend on Twitter and followed shortly after with a post to show off her gigantic diamond. She tweeted, ”Everyone has been asking about my engagement ring, so here it is : ) It’s a yellow canary diamond with diamonds around it and Brandon designed it with Johnathon Arndt! They did an amazing job! I can’t wait to make Brandon’s ring with Johnathon as well!”

Couples don’t always agree on every wedding detail. We asked a bride and groom-to-be to share their thoughts on everything from the first time they met to the party planning and what they’re looking forward to most about their wedding day! See how one couple’s responses compare.

When did you get engaged?
She said: December 12, 2011
He said: December 10, 2011

How did you first meet?
She said: Joe and I met in the Jesuit Volunteer Corps. I was a volunteer at the time, and Joe had already been through the program.
He said: We both participated in a volunteer program in Newark, NJ called the Jesuit Volunteer Corps. She did the program three years after me, but I was still living in New Jersey and worked with the new volunteers to get them adjusted to the program and ready to live in the city of Newark.

When/how did you first fall in love with your significant other?
She sad: Joe and I were friends for a while before we started dating, so we gradually fell in love.
He said: It was gradual, but then all at once it happened. She was in law school and I was in grad school and we had a common cause of work. She drove me to work harder and do better, and one day I looked up at her and knew that I loved her.

What’s the most memorable date you’ve had?
She said: The most memorable date was at a restaurant in Florence, Italy. It was just the two of us in the restaurant — very romantic.
He said: It might not be a date, but it was perhaps one of the best memories I have with Fran. We were in Venice and we got lost. Really lost. We had a map, but it seemed kinda useless as we couldn’t find the streets on the map. It was hours of walking but it was an amazing adventure and a perfect day.

What quality do you most admire about the other person?
She said: Joe is the most selfless person I know. He would do anything for anyone he knows, no matter how close they are.
He said: Her drive, her ability to be dedicated to a cause so passionately.

What was the best engagement present you received?
She said: Our coffee pot!!!
He said: My favorite so far has been a convection toaster oven. I love to cook and that thing just does so much so easily.

What was the weirdest/worst engagement present?
She said: We didn’t receive any bad presents — registering was so much fun!
He said: Oh man, is that a fair question? I think the weirdest was body wash…

What’s been the most fun detail of your wedding to plan?
She said: I loved planing the wedding at my parents’ home, so the best details have been generally to plan a whole event space that had never been used for a wedding venue.
He said: The menu. Our caterer has an amazing restaurant. And the cake tasting was delicious.

What’s been the most difficult detail of your wedding to agree upon?
She said: We didn’t really disagree on anything, because I planned the wedding and told Joe to show up!
He said: I don’t think there has been something that we couldn’t agree on. I’m pretty easy and trust in her taste more so than my own.

What do you look most forward to: the wedding day, the wedding night, the honeymoon?
She said: The wedding day.
He said: I’m looking forward to the wedding day. I love a good reception.

What will be the most unique detail at your wedding ceremony/reception?
She said: Our wedding favors are bride and groom maple candies to celebrate love in Vermont –they are so cute!
He said: Hmm, I would think the setting. It will be in the Vermont mountains during peak foliage time. So hopefully the trees will be perfect.

How did you/do you plan to celebrate your bachelor/bachelorette parties?
She said: I went to New York City with my girlfriends because it was a central place to meet. My girls planned it all for me and t was awesome!!
He said: I went to Ocean City, MD with my groomsmen and friends. It was a few days on the beach partying. Exactly what I wanted.

What moment of your wedding day are you most anticipating?
She said: Saying our vows.
He said: I am definitely looking forward to the ceremony itself, but I think what I am most anticipating, and it might be strange, is the walk down the aisle after the ceremony.

How will you feel when the wedding planning is all over?
She said: Relieved!!! It is so much work to plan a wedding.
He said: Very relaxed. I hope.

What are your honeymoon plans?
She said: We are still planing the honeymoon, because we can’t go right after the wedding. We will be going to a tropical beach in the Caribbean.
He said: Because I’m a teacher we are looking to go sometime in February to the Caribbean for a week. Something nice and beachy.

I have been in love with flower crowns ever since I spotted one on an adorable California bride. I made my own flower crown for my Bohemian engagement photo session, and I’m sure there will be others on my wedding planning journey!

Slight break from wedding planning talk for one small post to discuss something that’s bothered me ever since I got engaged. After that night, suddenly, Oren went from being my boyfriend (a nice, simple, easy title) to my fiance.

Now, there’s obviously nothing wrong with Oren becoming my fiancé — I was thrilled that he wanted that title and could not be more excited that we were engaged.

But, ever since, I’ve felt so weird calling him that. Whenever I say “my fiance” I feel as though I’m bragging in a very snobby way. In fact, sometimes I still consciously call him my boyfriend just to avoid using the word. Other times, I refer to him as Oren to complete strangers who have no idea who this Oren person is. Also, I don’t think I’ll feel this way when I call him my husband, so, what gives?

I’m not alone in these feelings. Our editor who’s engaged says the same and refers to her fiance and “her man” to avoid the word. Also, the awesome Ellie Kemper wrote a hilarious article earlier this year explaining her distaste for the word and saying she would refer to her fiance as “gloob.”

I think it’s high time we come up with a new word. One of my bridesmaids used to refer to her fiance as her “husband-elect,” which I’m a fan of.

Let’s start a campaign now to come up with an improved way to refer to the guy you’re about the marry, who is no longer your boyfriend and not yet your husband.

Thoughts? Should fiancé be replaced? What’s the best replacement word? Gloob? Husband-elect? Something even better?

Ben and I have zero experience behind the camera, but we immediately felt at ease with our wedding photographers Shannon and Andrew Horton of  Fox & Owl photography. It all started on Thursday when I was at work my boss came into my office and told me he had a crazy idea for one of our donor functions (I am a fundraiser and we are always thinking of creative things we can do for our donors).

He told me that he had set up an appointment for me the following afternoon at The Swag. Now for those of you who don’t know, it’s an incredible, beautiful, exclusive resort located in the mountains of Western North Carolina. I was thrilled at this idea because I had always wanted to go to The Swag, but you can’t even get on the property without an appointment.

The next morning my Mom and Sister helped me pick out a nice outfit for my meeting. I left the office around 3:00 and made my way up the curvy two and half mile road that led straight to the top of a mountain where The Swag is located.

The whole way up it was pouring  rain and I was not excited about being drenched for my meeting. When I finally got to the top the clouds opened up and there was nothing but beautiful sunshine (definitely a God thing:)). I entered the main lodge and greeted the woman who was supposedly going to be talking business with.

She proceeded to show me the various facilities and different options for hosting events at The Swag. After that she told me she wanted to take me to their famous view. I was thrilled but couldn’t imagine a view more beautiful that what I had already seen. We hopped in the resort’s old Land Rover and headed up to Gooseberry Knob. When I got out of the truck I couldn’t believe what I saw. It was the most beautiful pristine view of the great Smokey Mountains. You could see miles and miles of beautiful mountain backdrop; it was truly breathtaking. After taking it all in, the woman I was meeting with told me there was a small overlook she wanted to bring me to.

I then proceeded to walk up this small wooden bridge not knowing the surprise that awaited me around the corner. When I turned the corner I couldn’t believe my eyes, Ben (the man of my dreams!!!) was sitting in a chair amongst one of the most beautiful views in the whole world. I knew this was the moment I had been waiting for for so long. He rushed over and enveloped me in a huge hug. I honestly can’t remember exactly what he said to me (still in complete shock) but I know it was beautiful and perfect. He then got down on his knee and pulled out the most incredible ring, my DREAM ring and asked me to marry him. I didn’t even wait one second before I screamed “Of course I will marry you.”

At that moment, I was the happiest girl in the whole entire world. The day just got more perfect when I saw my precious sister hiding out in the woods snapping pictures and memories of this special time. We then spent the next couple ours reveling in our happiness and enjoying each other’s company. Afterwards we had a party at my house celebrating this happy time with our family.

I couldn’t have dreamed of a more perfect proposal. To this day, I am still in shock that he pulled the whole thing off without me having a clue. Just another one of the many reasons i’m lucky to be marrying the man of my dreams.
