Couples don’t always agree on every wedding detail. We asked a bride and groom-to-be to share their thoughts on everything from the first time they met to the party planning and what they’re looking forward to most about their wedding day which for this couple is in April of 2014 on Martha’s Vineyard! See how their responses compare.

The Bride-to-be: Cameron Schroeder, 24, Nursing Student
The Groom-to-be: Matt Karrenbauer, 24, Army Armor Officer

When did you get engaged?
She said: June 1, 2012 in Clifton, Virginia.
He said: June 1, 2012.

How did you first meet?
She said: We lived two doors down from each other freshman year of college. We became friends pretty much immediately.
He said: We lived a couple rooms apart freshman year of college. During the initial round-robin meet-and-greet she couldn’t remember by name! But we quickly became close friends.

When/how did you first fall in love with your significant other?
She sad: I gradually fell in love with him. We were best friends for a year and a half beforehand, and it felt very natural and normal to make the transition.
He said: It was gradual. The first year and a half we were very close friends. Sophomore year we started feeling it grow beyond friendship. Then I went to Egypt to study abroad the next semester, but we promised to wait for each other until I got back.

What’s the most memorable date you’ve had?
She said: Valentine’s day two years ago, Matt surprised me with a home-cooked meal, my favorite flowers and candles everywhere.
He said: I took her to old town Alexandria for dinner and a hotel down near the water. We talked for hours over great wine and food, and had not a care for anything but us.

What quality do you most admire about the other person?
She said: Matt has the biggest heart. He is disciplined, honorable, and devoted to his family, friends and to our country. He is also sweet, witty and very romantic.
He said: Her sincerity. She doesn’t have to put any effort into being graceful, loving, honest and beautiful. She is simply so genuine in who she is and what she does that it all comes completely natural to her.

What was the best engagement present you received?
She said: We received a leather-bound journal from my aunt which we are writing in and sending back and forth to each other while Matt is away.
He said: A leather bound journal her aunt gave us. I was deploying soon and we wanted a special way to keep the spark alive and thriving, so we take turns writing in it and mailing it to each other.

What was the weirdest/worst engagement present?
She said: We didn’t receive many engagement gifts, however they were all personal and thoughtful.
He said: Unfortunately we never had an engagement party or anything of the sort. She’s in Grad School up in Boston and I’m stationed at Ft. Campbell, KY, so the distance prevented having one. But the journal was all we needed.

How would you describe the style of your wedding?
She said: Classy, beautiful, relaxed and fun.
He said: Old Vineyard meets military. Think more like a simple springtime elegance crossed with the sharpness of military dress, but all the while laid back and relaxing.

What’s been the most fun detail of your wedding to plan?
She said: We are still in the process of planning the wedding, but I am most excited to pick the music and the menu!
He said: The food. I’m a huge foodie, so I enjoy looking at all the options. Can’t wait to taste test them when I get home too!

What’s been the most difficult detail of your wedding to agree upon?
She said: We’ve had a hard time picking the date and venue but that is mostly because of our busy schedules (nursing school and the military). Otherwise, we agree on all of the important details which is great!
He said: How many people to invite. It seems simple enough, but it controls everything from venue spaces to food and drink. The agreed upon guest list is more elusive than one first thinks.

How has it been planning a wedding while your fiance is deployed/
while you’ve been deployed?
She said: It hasn’t been easy because of the time difference. It’s hard to coordinate when you’re in opposite time zones. Luckily we are able to talk pretty much every day so we send each other lots of emails and make it work.
He said: So far not bad. We started planning early since we knew it would be hindered while I’m gone. Luckily my sister is a professional wedding planner and has really stepped up to help us out.

What do you look most forward to: the wedding day, the wedding night, the honeymoon?
She said: The wedding day. I can’t wait to stand up in front of all of our family and friends and read our vows to each other. I also can’t wait for the moment when we officially become husband and wife.
He said: We’re both avid world travelers so I can’t wait for whatever far off adventure we decide to take!

What will be the most unique detail at your wedding ceremony/reception?
She said: The venue has a stunning panoramic view of the harbor which will be great for the guests who have never been to Martha’s Vineyard.
He said: We’re going to help guests coordinate with each other so they can potentially rent homes as a group. For example, our friends from Syracuse will know who else is going from our college days so they can all get a house together. That way it’s not just a wedding, it’s a reunion for everyone.

How did you/do you plan to celebrate your bachelor/bachelorette parties?
She said: I’d either like to spend a fun night out in the city dancing with my friends or enjoy a day at the spa.
He said: I’m leaving most of the planning of it to my Best Man, so I have no idea yet. He and I have always been thrill seekers together anyways, so I imagine it’ll be something between a pub crawl and an epic adventure.

What moment of your wedding day are you most anticipating?
She said: Walking down the aisle and watching Matt’s response as I get closer to him. I am also looking forward to our first dance as a married couple.
He said: Seeing her for the first time in her dress, walking down the aisle towards me.

How will you feel when the wedding planning is all over?
She said: Less stressed! It is hard to plan a wedding while you’re in graduate school. As excited as I am for the wedding day, I am very much looking forward to our life together after the wedding.
He said: Relieved, but let down a little too. Half the fun is going through all the options and deciding how to make the day really special for us.

What are your honeymoon plans?
She said: We both love traveling so most likely a new place we’ve never been before. Hopefully somewhere in Europe, Australia or South America.
He said: Not sure yet. We’ve talked about various places we want to visit, we just know it’ll be somewhere overseas. Perhaps somewhere in the Greek archipelago.

See how their responses compare.

The Bride-to-be: Natasha Desai, 27
The Groom-to-be: Nupam Ashok Patel, 28

When did you get engaged?
She said: March 31, 2012
He said: March 31, 2011 – the day after my birthday!

How did you first meet?
She said: I visited my brother a few times while he was in Med School in Grenada, and occasionally saw Nupam down there. We never officially met, but I remember thinking he was really goofy. We then saw each other when he was back in NYC at a mutual friend’s engagement party and began flirting, much to my brother’s chagrin.
He said: Natasha came to visit her brother at school once. He and I went to medical school together.

When/how did you first fall in love with your significant other?
She sad: There was a time when Nupam’s lease was up and he was staying with me in my apartment in NYC before he moved to Cincinnati. Seeing how amazing it was to be with him day in and day out made me really fall for him.
He said: It was during a trip we took to Costa Rica last year.

What’s the most memorable date you’ve had?
She said: It was more so an experience than a date. We were in Costa Rica last year and wanted to go out to a nice dinner one night. It was pouring rain and we got a little lost on the way there, but after being soaked and nervous we would lose our reservation, we finally made it to the restaurant which was completely empty except for the two of us. It was perfect.
He said: The first one. She looked gorgeous!

What quality do you most admire about the other person?
She said: Nupam is the most selfless person I know. He’ll do anything for me and mostly anyone he knows, no questions asked.
He said: She is genuine and spontaneous. (I couldn’t pick one!)

What was the best engagement present you received?
She said: My friends gave us gift certificate to a restaurant in Cincinnati where we had our first date when he moved there.
He said: Cash.

What was the weirdest/worst engagement present?
She said: I don’t think we got any of those!
He said: I’m not sure… I think we just got cash.

How would you describe the style of your wedding?
She said: If anything, I would say romantic.
He said: Like something in the Guggenheim.

What’s been the most fun detail of your wedding to plan?
She said: Once we get closer to the date, I know it will be the food!
He said: The food!

What’s been the most difficult detail of your wedding to agree upon?
She said: Nupam agrees with pretty much all of my decisions so there really isn’t one!
He said: I’m pretty easy going so we haven’t had any time-consuming disagreements.

What do you look most forward to: the wedding day, the wedding night, the honeymoon?
She said: Wedding night!
He said: Honeymoon.

What will be the most unique detail at your wedding ceremony/reception?
She said: I think that’s still to-be-determined.
He said: I’ll be arriving in a carriage pulled by a bunch of horses.

How did you/do you plan to celebrate your bachelor/bachelorette parties?
She said: I’m going to Iceland with my bridesmaids and having a local bachelorette party in NYC for all of my girlfriends.
He said: Not sure. Maybe a ski trip? Panama?

What moment of your wedding day are you most anticipating?
She said: Walking down the aisle.
He said: The moment we are man and wife!

How will you feel when the wedding planning is all over?
She said: I hope relaxed, and a tiny bit relieved!
He said: Pure unadulterated joy.

What are your honeymoon plans?
She said: As of now we are thinking of going to South Africa – safari, vineyards and relaxation.
He said: South Africa and the Seychelles Islands

We asked a bride and groom-to-be to share their thoughts on everything from the first time they met to the party planning and what they’re looking forward to most about their wedding day! See how one couple’s responses compare.

The Bride-to-be: Caryn Gordon, 27
The Groom-to-be: Matthew Weiss, 27

When did you get engaged?
She said: June 1, 2011- see our story here!
He said: June 1, 2011 – the night Johan Santana threw the first no-hitter in Mets history.

How did you first meet?
She said: Sleep-away camp in the Poconos when we were 13
He said: We met at sleep away camp, Cedar Lake, when we were 13.

When/how did you first fall in love with your significant other?
She sad: Probably at a youth group dance when we were 15… and many more times since.
He said: Over the course of many years being friends in our early 20s.

What’s the most memorable date you’ve had?
She said: There are so many! One for the books was the day we spent together in London in 2006 when we both studied abroad, and a more recent memorable date was when we went to the Mets game the Sunday after we got engaged!
He said: Wegman’s and Applebees when we were 15.

What quality do you most admire about the other person?
She said: His passion for things he’s interested in and willingness to learn about things that I am…in addition to being smart, kind, thoughtful and loving.
He said: Her youthful spirit. She never fails to do something funny that makes me smile.

What was the best engagement present you received?
She said: A fiance! Oh, real gift you mean? My best friend (who is married 1 year) made us an “Engagement Survival Kit” which was a basket filled with items that each had a different meaning, from a funny movie to cake mix. Each item was for a different emotion during this amazing yet, stressful year.
He said: A slow-cooker. We got like 7 of them!

What was the weirdest/worst engagement present?
She said: Because of a technical glitch we received 3 giant crock pots off our registry. It was pretty hilarious to open one after another.
He said: A flameless colored candle set. What on earth is that?

How would you describe the style of your wedding?
She said: Traditional, elegant and hopefully fun! We want this to be an event for all our loved ones to truly enjoy.
He said: Classic.

What’s been the most fun detail of your wedding to plan?
She said: We are still in the early stages but, so far the band has been the most exciting to book. Now that we have signed with one, I can actually start to picture how the day will come together!
He said: The food! The menu has like 15 pages of hor’s devoures.

What’s been the most difficult detail of your wedding to agree upon?
She said: Hmmmm I don’t know if we have one….yet!
He said: It’s all been easy (wink, wink)!

What do you look most forward to: the wedding day, the wedding night, the honeymoon?
She said: Option D. Being married! I will be excited for the wedding day and to share that with all of our friends and family but, what I’m most looking forward to is starting a life together with such a wonderful send off into marriage.
He said: The wedding ceremony. Being together under the chuppah, just Caryn and I …and the rabbi of course!

What will be the most unique detail at your wedding ceremony/reception?
She said: We are hoping to send our guests home with a certain (secret) goodnight treat. If we can pull it off, it would be very special!
He said: Drinking wine that was made by my great-great grandfather during prohibition.

How did you/do you plan to celebrate your bachelor/bachelorette parties?
She said: Something BBQ-related for Matt, I’m sure! For me, whatever the ladies plan!
He said: Possibly a Big Blue travel road trip – seeing the Giants play an away game (depends on the 2013 schedule).

What moment of your wedding day are you most anticipating?
She said: Standing side by side in front of all of our guests!!! Also, the first dance will have a lot of meaning for us.
He said: The Horah.

How will you feel when the wedding planning is all over?
She said: Excited to relax and then…plan the next thing!
He said: Happy for Caryn!

What are your honeymoon plans?
She said: Something low key. A few days someplace warm and relaxing…some would call it a mini-moon. Then maybe a big trip the following summer!
He said: Mini-moon, even though it kills me to say that phrase, and then a longer European trip the following spring.

We asked a bride and groom-to-be to share their thoughts on everything from the first time they met to the party planning and what they’re looking forward to most about their wedding day! See how one couple’s responses compare.

The Bride-to-be: Rebecca Sametz, 23
The Groom-to-be: David Grassi, 25

When did you get engaged?
She said: July 29, 2012
He said: July 29, 2012

How did you first meet?
She said: We met while attending the University of Kentucky basketball lottery where we had mutual friends there.
He said: One of my closest friends had a huge crush on Becka, and he kept bringing her over to my house for parties and movie nights and football games. Looking back it wasn’t the smartest move he’s ever made.

When/how did you first fall in love with your significant other?
She sad: I fell in love with David during the months that I lived with him in New Jersey the summer before I started graduate school in Michigan. His warm heart and dedication to our relationship was displayed and I always told myself that when I find someone that I can be with 24/7, that was the man that I was going to marry.
He said: I don’t remember the exact time or place or memory that made me fall in love with her, but I do remember when I realized I was. One weekend a few friends came to visit me in NJ, and we made a trip to NYC. The whole time I was there I wouldn’t shut up about her. Every store we went to I was looking for things to buy her, every interesting thing I saw I wanted to tell her about, every joke I told I kept waiting to hear her laugh. We had been doing the long-distance thing for months at this point, and it was that weekend that I realized that I loved her, and never wanted to spend another day without her.

What’s the most memorable date you’ve had?
She said: The night that we went to New York City and went on a carriage ride and got to go ice skating in the park. We laughed for hours and got a chance to snuggle under the blanket together while riding around downtown New York City.
He said: To me it was our 1 year anniversary. I took her to NYC to do all the cute things you see in the movies. We went ice skating, went on a carriage ride in Central Park and had a nice dinner — the whole shebang.

What quality do you most admire about the other person?
She said: The quality that I admire most about David is his personality. No matter what, he always knows what kind of day that I am having. Good or bad, he can make me smile — his goofy personality always makes that happen!
He said: I admire most her ability to adapt to any social situation. Whether it’s a reunion with my old high school friends, or dinner with my second cousin twice removed, she can get along, and have a conversation with anyone. It really makes me want to bring her everywhere with me.

What was the best engagement present you received?
She said: I don’t think that we got any engagement presents other than a wonderful centerpiece from my family that had peacock feathers in there just like the theme of our wedding.
He said: Well we didn’t get many engagement presents. But we did get a few relatives who slipped checks in with the congratulatory cards, and with that money I bought a grill. So I vote the grill.

What was the weirdest/worst engagement present?
She said: None.
He said: Her mom had flowers waiting for us when we got back from the weekend we got engaged. Because Becka loved the colors of peacock feathers, and we knew we wanted them involved in our wedding, these feathers were a dominant part of the arrangement. It was a really sweet thought, but it looked like someone shot a bird and stuffed it into a vase. It was just odd.

How would you describe the style of your wedding?
She said: David and I are very much kids at heart. We enjoy laughing and having a good time, so we want a classy wedding but one that will also display our personality. For example, our wedding is a peacock theme but our save the dates are going to be like a film reel. We are going to put on different costumes and make funny faces!
He said: Loud. We’re both very outgoing people, and with the colors in the wedding (Royal Purple and Lime Green) the best way I can describe what will transpire, both visual and aurally, is just loud.

What’s been the most fun detail of your wedding to plan?
She said: Well, I know what David would say (the cake testing), but I enjoyed looking at the different venues and being able to picture our magical day together.
He said: Picking out the catering has been my favorite part so far. Stations, buffet or plated dinners, what type of food, all the options involved… the candy bar!!!

What’s been the most difficult detail of your wedding to agree upon?
She said: When to have the wedding. I wanted to have the wedding right away, and he wanted to wait until I was completely done with school so that we can go straight to our honeymoon without having to wait. I eventually gave in because in the end, as long as I am with him, it doesn’t matter when or where we get married!
He said: The date. We have been bickering about when to have the wedding since we started dating it seems like. She would have it tomorrow in Vegas if she could and I want plenty of time to plan an elaborate event.

What do you look most forward to: the wedding day, the wedding night, the honeymoon?
She said: The honeymoon — because that will be the first time that we get a chance to be together as husband and wife without any distractions!
He said: I think the wedding day, mostly for the reception. The ceremony I will just be nervous, the honeymoon I will probably not remember, but the reception I just want to enjoy introducing my new wife to all my friends and family and enjoy the time spent with all of them.

What will be the most unique detail at your wedding ceremony/reception?
She said: We are getting married at Keeneland Horse Park, so that is definitely something different. But the main thing that I believe is different are the centerpieces that my mom created all by herself. She wanted to be able to contribute to the wedding and she is definitely a woman of style! My mother did a wonderful job displaying our fun personalities.
He said: I think it would have to be the colors. It’s not often you see Lime Green and Royal Purple paired. It should be an interesting combination, but it fits us. Lime green is her favorite color, and royal purple is mine. Some people have poked fun at them for being Barney colors, but I prefer to think of the Joker from Batman.

What moment of your wedding day are you most anticipating?
She said: That first kiss as husband and wife. I can’t wait for the fireworks to go off and to kick off the next chapter of our lives together.
He said: I know it makes me sound like a fat kid, but the food. We’re going to have a candy bar, and a variety of ethic food stations, and what I can only imagine will be an epic cake. I know most people say you won’t have time to eat. I will make time!

How will you feel when the wedding planning is all over?
She said: I’m not sure. I am assuming based off of other stories and advice from friends that I am going to definitely be relieved that it is over, but up to this point I am enjoying every minute of it!
He said: Poor. I’m sure everyone knows all the costs involved. So after the DJ, the reception, reserving the church, the limo, the rehearsal dinner, the flowers, the honeymoon… I’m predicting the overwhelming feeling I will have will be the pain in my wallet.

What are your honeymoon plans?
She said: We would like to go to Jamaica for our honeymoon (or at least I want to!). We just want an all-paid resort honeymoon where we do not need to worry about the expenses, but can just focus on our time together.
He said: I’m still searching but I’m hoping to find an overwater bungalow in the Caribbean. I want something secluded and not terribly far away, and all inclusive. Still searching but that is my dream honeymoon location.

For Rosana Gambino, she was most concerned about the effect the oncoming hurricane would have on her proposal plans to girlfriend Jerilyn Sawyer. “Frankenstorm was on her way,” Rosana wrote on her blog. “As the day grew nearer, so did the looming threat of my beautifully planned proposal being washed down the drains of Massachusettes Avenue.”

But Sandy didn’t get in the way of this awesome flash mob proposal. The couple’s anniversary was during October and Jerilyn wanted to attend a ghost tour to reenact their first date. Jerilyn found a haunted tour in Harvard Square and the couple decided to get tickets and invite family along. Little did Jerilyn know, Rosana was planning to propose that night. Rosana had gotten together a flashmob made up of various dance groups at Northeastern University where she went to school. Rosana had hired a DJ for that night and had attended several rehearsals leading up to the date, while Jerilyn unsuspectedly thought she was at dinner with friends. On October 28, as everyone arrived at the ghost tour Jerilyn heard music playing in the square and soon 15 dancers were performing right before them. When “Marry You” by Bruno Mars came on Rosana danced a solo towards Jerilyn and asked her to marry her. “The rain and chill in the air from the incoming Hurricane Sandy didn’t seem to matter anymore,” she says. “All I could feel was complete shock.”

Jerilyn says she was “blown away” by the proposal — now referred to as the Harvard Square Flashmob Proposal.

Today’s post is in honor of the Jewish high holidays that of the past few weeks, the traditional Jewish wedding I’m planning and my future Jewish wife-hood (did I mention I’m Jewish?).

Now, what comes hand in hand with Jewish holidays is, of course, food and for the case of the specific story I’m about to tell — the most traditional of all, matzah ball soup! For my entire life, the matzah balls have always been made by my great aunt Tia Adela and my mom. They are a strong two-woman team who didn’t need help from anyone else. Every holiday as far back as I can remember, as soon as everyone arrives, the matzah ball cooking commences and once they go into the pot to cook, we sit down for course number one. I have always wanted to help with this, especially in recent years as I’ve become a more proficient cook. I also love the idea of learning family recipes and storing them for later use to teach my future children about our traditions.

I was home in Florida for Rosh Hashana (the Jewish New Year) two weeks ago to celebrate with my family and the most exciting thing happened! I moved up the holiday cooking hierarchy and was allowed to help with the matzah balls. Now, for my sister and me, the most we’ve ever been allowed to do is help bring food to and from the table and maybe make a dessert, so this was a major promotion.

As I helped stir the mix, my aunt told me all about adding a little of this and a little of that (no standard measuring units here!) and I started to learn the process, to my sister Sam’s chagrin. She finally asked why I was allowed to help all of a sudden and the answer was because I’m getting married so I have to learn. Sam took this in stride and it was even her idea that I write this as a post.

So this got me thinking, who else out there has now been allowed to do certain things now that they are engaged? I’d love to hear from you on what family traditions are now passed down, if any, or if in your family, it’s just an age thing, not a marital status thing? Chime in in the comments!

First Snooki has a baby and now JWoww (also known as Jenni Farley) is engaged to longtime boyfriend Roger Mathews.

Roger proposed during a skydiving session and when JWoww was back on the ground she saw Roger’s handwritten sign asking her to marry him. And her reaction to the entire thing? She told In Touch, “The whole time I’m screaming, ‘What are you doing? What’s going on?’ “He’s like, ‘I want to spend the rest of my life with you! Will you allow me to?’”

Of course she said yes, and this couple is headed down the aisle toward marriage and definitely a fist-pumping reception. Maybe even Pauly D will be the deejay? Regardless, congratulations JWoww and Roger!

Slight break from wedding planning talk for one small post to discuss something that’s bothered me ever since I got engaged. After that night, suddenly, Oren went from being my boyfriend (a nice, simple, easy title) to my fiance.

Now, there’s obviously nothing wrong with Oren becoming my fiancé — I was thrilled that he wanted that title and could not be more excited that we were engaged.

But, ever since, I’ve felt so weird calling him that. Whenever I say “my fiance” I feel as though I’m bragging in a very snobby way. In fact, sometimes I still consciously call him my boyfriend just to avoid using the word. Other times, I refer to him as Oren to complete strangers who have no idea who this Oren person is. Also, I don’t think I’ll feel this way when I call him my husband, so, what gives?

I’m not alone in these feelings. Our editor who’s engaged says the same and refers to her fiance and “her man” to avoid the word. Also, the awesome Ellie Kemper wrote a hilarious article earlier this year explaining her distaste for the word and saying she would refer to her fiance as “gloob.”

I think it’s high time we come up with a new word. One of my bridesmaids used to refer to her fiance as her “husband-elect,” which I’m a fan of.

Let’s start a campaign now to come up with an improved way to refer to the guy you’re about the marry, who is no longer your boyfriend and not yet your husband.

Thoughts? Should fiancé be replaced? What’s the best replacement word? Gloob? Husband-elect? Something even better?
