Liza Lubell, founder of Brooklyn-based Peartree Flowers created this stunning tropical centerpiece while on location for a wedding in Maui. For this lush island look Liza combined local Hawaiian flowers with familiar flowers like ranunculuses and garden roses, while indigenous plants like the unique orange cone-shaped ginger and vines clipped from the forest added a local element. As a result, the centerpiece incorporated a Hawaiian influence, but maintained a loose and organic look. Additional centerpieces incorporated different citrus tones. “It’s fun to use a palette that ranges from yellows to orange to incorporate some colors that are in the more mellow range and some that are brighter,” says Liza.

Oren kept the design simple and streamlined with small clustered centerpieces, though they were visually striking because each color was separated into different containers. “Coral is definitely timeless but the orange adds a hot pop that brings youthful flare to the palette,” says Yifat of the color palette. In addition to coral and orange, Yifat also worked in whites, ivories, champagne, and green accents. The arrangements included garden roses, viburnum and hypericum berries for a lush, garden look.

For this vineyard wedding, Liza Lubell focused on creating lush garden centerpieces paired with smaller arrangements of textured elements from the larger arrangements for a simple, yet fresh look. The mixed organic arrangements contained garden roses, hydrangeas, dahlias, and fern. Smaller containers of ball dahlias and lambs ear were interspersed in between. This technique of breaking down the centerpieces into different components on the table has an important aesthetic purpose, who says “When you see so many flowers all arranged in one centerpiece it can be difficult for your eyes to focus on the flowers, but when we break it down and space out the flowers are showcased much more.”

Pretty, right? One of our favorite bridal salons in New York, Bridal Reflections, sent this centerpiece to our office this week. Love the white and ivory combo of roses and orchids. So fresh and crisp — perfect for fall!

This petite centerpiece is still brightening up our office after spending a day under the hot lights of a video shoot. We love how the designers at City Blossoms in Manhattan (CityBlossoms.com) grouped flowers of the same color (cobalt blue, lime green and crisp white) to achieve an eye-catching pattern with visual impact. What’s your centerpiece style?

Gorgeous fashion accessories, flower arrangements, wedding cakes and stationery cross our desks every day here in our New York City office.
We had a clear winner this week — this centerpiece had us all charmed. Rebecca Shepherd of Rebecca Shepherd Floral Design created this arrangement for the week’s episode of The Knot LIVE. She stopped by the show to chat about her favorite floral trends and Anne Hathaway’s taste in flowers (Shepherd provided the florals for Hathaway’s engagement party!). Here’s what Shepherd had to say about these beautiful blooms:

“This centerpiece has a natural, organic and asymmetrical shape. No two of these types of centerpieces are the same! The color combination was a take on royalty-meets-summer-garden-wedding. I used a gorgeous lavender and white dutch hydrangea, red “Darcy” garden roses, white gomphrena, pink ranunculus, lavender scabiosas as well as scabiosa pods.”

Yesterday, I was lucky enough to spend part of my day at the New York Flower Show, which is put on by the Horticultural Society of New York. Basically, it’s an annual event where New York City florists put together the most spectacular tablescapes they can dream up — based around a theme. And this year, the theme was “Couture en Fleur” — fashion in flowers!

The designers really brought it, drawing inspiration from both everyday fashion and couture icons like Coco Chanel and Alexander McQueen. Above on the left, George Pisegna created a charming centerpiece made of buttons in raised glass vases with candy-colored flowers like ranunculus and craspedia underneath. And of course, there were plenty of life-size dresses made of flowers, like these two remarkable floral frocks on the right by Laura Clare, Floral Design & Event Decor.

Above, Gramercy Park Flower Shop, left, and Mixed Greens Events, right, designed some pretty amazing ball gowns made of pure greenery that were as gorgeous as the real wedding dresses we’ve been seeing this bridal fashion week.

I also loved this smaller-scale tablescape by Petal Design Studio. Somehow these half-pomanders made of roses, succulents and peonies set along a clear platform seem romantic, modern and classic all at once. I might be saving this idea for my own wedding someday. Where are you getting your floral inspiration?
