Shannon and Alex married in the picturesque George Peabody Library at John Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, incorporating retro Americana details into the historic setting.

When planning out your color palette, dear Knotties, remember: Your ceremony and reception don’t have to look exactly the same. Julie and Bill transitioned from a clean all-white ceremony on the California bluffs to a candlelit jewel-toned ballroom reception. As long as your hues are within the same color family (i.e. they would look good together), the end result will be beautiful.

Today we’re feeling some fabulous preppy details, and Adrienne and Justin’s seaside wedding is a model for doing the nautical theme right. To set the stage, they chose a classic New Jersey yacht club and followed a crisp navy-and-white palette (with pops of yellow blooms). Details like striped ribbons, hemp rope and anchor designs were kept understated so the overall event felt fresh and light.

Guess what? Getting married is awesome! Celebrate it! Debra and Alex had a streamer cannon shower them during their grand entrance into the reception — fitting for the wedding’s ultra-vivid aesthetic (and Debra’s dramatic Oscar de la Renta ruffled ballgown).

In the wake of recent same-sex marriage news (namely, North Carolina passing a ban against gay unions in its state constitution Tuesday), President Barack Obama has gone on the record that he personally supports equality for all couples.

He tells Robin Roberts of ABC’s Good Morning America:

“I have to tell you that over the course of several years as I have talked to friends and family and neighbors, when I think about members of my own staff who are in incredibly committed, monogamous relationships, same-sex relationships, who are raising kids together; when I think about those soldiers or airmen or marines or sailors who are out there fighting on my behalf and yet feel constrained, even now that Don’t Ask Don’t Tell is gone, because they are not able to commit themselves in a marriage — at a certain point, I’ve just concluded that for me personally, it is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same-sex couples should be able to get married.”

The full interview will air Thursday morning on ABC.
