If you’re like me, what you wear on your feet is just as important than what you wear on top. After seeing so many gorgeous new gowns at bridal fashion week, my brain was spinning with how I would pair some of my favorite dresses with killer matching shoes.

Glamourous Ballerina 

If you’re dreaming of floating down the aisle wrapped up in tutu tulle, then you’ll need a pair of heels equally elegant and feminine. Choose one with straps that tie around the ankle to play up the dancer vibe.

Lock-in Foundation

So you didn’t have time to schedule in an airbrushing appointment. No big deal. This ultra light weight but super strength foundation won’t budge or melt off, no matter how much the sun is shining on you during the ceremony.

Pick Me Up

It’s bound to happen—you get your hair blow out in the morning but after the ceremony it’s fallen completely flat. This is basically the end-all-be-all of formality. You are going to want to go all out. Put on the dressiest thing you own and make sure it is floor-length. Imagine this as your red-carpet Oscar moment.

Translation: get gussied up in a fancy gown. Black tie is the next step down in formal wear after white-tie. If you have a floor-grazing gown, you should definitely wear it. Only have a knee-length gown? One in a jewel tone or darker shade would work best. Don’t even think about wearing a mini.

Slightly less formal than black-tie, most women will be wearing knee-length gowns in rich colors or black. However, if you want to wear a longer dress, you’ll fit right in as well. The only rule is to make sure you wear something on the dressy side.

This is getting really specific. Basically the bride is trying to tell you to dress to impress but keep in mind that you’ll be in a sandy, windy and possibly wet environment. What to wear? A flowy gown that has enough give to makes it comfortable on the beach. Choose one in a flirty print to make it look even more beach-appropriate.

This does not mean that anything goes (which means do not show in a pair of shorts and t-shirt!). You still have to look cleaned up.  Think light fabrics like cotton or a pretty floral prints in a summery shade.

Besides the dress what else can a bride wear to make her feel special on her wedding day?

One of my absolute favorite designer duos just tied the knot this Friday! After 28 years together, Mark Badgley and James Mischka got married in a small ceremony (only Mark’s twin sister was present) at City Hall in New York. They were later joined by 22 guests for an intimate reception at the exclusive Raoul’s. Congrats to the happy (and incredibly kind) couple!
