Ashlee Simpson Wore a Crop Top Wedding Dress at Her Bohemian Ceremony!

Go boho or go home! That was seemingly Ashlee Simpson and Evan Ross‘s wedding day motto when it came to their August 31 nuptials in Greenwich, Connecticut (which we totally called). The singer wed at her mother-in-law Diana Ross’s estate, who also planned and officiated the wedding, according to People.

It looks like Diana pays attention to the couple’s unique style, since there were “dream catchers, eclectic touches and a mix-and-match palette” to set the tone for a Bohemian theme at the ceremony. As a sign of good luck, it even rained before the wedding started, but Ashlee and Evan took it in stride.

“They waited for the rain to stop, but it only added to the beauty of the property and ceremony,” the outlet reports. “Everyone was crying.”

Ashlee, of our favorite vintage style icons, was a daring bride and wore a gorgeous custom Houghton crop top wedding dress that she rocked, naturally (see photos here!).

Her two-piece gown, designed by Katharine Polk, featured Houghton’s ivory corded lace Aligote crop top with a three-quarter sleeve worn over the ivory Chantilly lace Madonna bralet and paired with the ivory corded lace Macabeau skirt with high-low hemline and train. The Aligote featured a custom hand-beaded pearl detail throughout the lace. Ashlee also wore a custom silk tulle veil.

Her summery look was topped off by a tiara, beachy waves and $750,000 worth of Neil Lane diamonds and rubies, according to Us Weekly. Evan wore a black velvet Dolce & Gabbana tux, and their wedding party wore white gowns and white tuxes.

The ceremony was a family affair, since Ashlee’s son, Bronx, walked her down the aisle, big sis Jessica Simpson (who also wore a tiara!) served as her matron of honor, and Jessica’s kids Maxwell and Ace were the flower girl and ring bearer. A choir sang “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” after the ceremony, and then Diana took center stage at the reception to surprise the crowd with “Endless Love.”

“When Diana got up to sing at the reception, she surprised everyone, even her kids! She was the only one on the dance floor and everyone rushed to see her,” People stated.

Diana Ross is wonderful and all, but we think the bride could have knocked “Pieces of Me” out of the ballpark at her own reception too (perfect song to dedicate to her groom!).

Event planner extraordinaire Mindy Weiss designed the reception (who also did Jessica’s July wedding), where guests partied until 1 a.m. and ate sliced beef fillets, baked butternut squash polenta with smoked gouda cheese, fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, deviled eggs with bacon, hush puppies and more delicious dishes. We also called that Ashlee would have a naked wedding cake! The couple chose a four-tier vanilla, chocolate and red velvet confection with thin buttercream layers.
