Whitney Port Spills Her Biggest Wedding Planning Secrets

It’s no secret, Whitney Port is happily engaged to long time boyfriend Tim Rosenman who proposed last winter (did you see the ring?!). Since the November proposal, the two have been busy planning away and it’s also reported the couple has picked a secret date and location. Well, we talked with Whitney for our Fall Weddings issue, and here are 7 things that may surprise you about the couple’s wedding planning:

1. Whitney’s fiance Tim is super involved.
“He has strong opinions, which is great because sometimes I’m not sure. It’s been fun to do something like this together as a team.”

2. Tim is dominating the guest list!
“He has a bigger family and more friends—he’s way more popular than I am! For me, it’s important to just enjoy the weekend with the people you really want to be there.”

3. Whitney’s most excited about the decor.
“I’m a creative, visual person and am most excited for the table settings and flowers. I’m not someone who wants a wedding filled with candles and dramatic lighting. I’m thinking of a desert color palette—greens and natural tones.”

4. She’s no bridezilla.
“I’ve never dreamt about my wedding, but I do see myself getting more particular. My older sister Ashley is a wedding planner with her own company, BK Events, so she’s helped me stay organized.”

5. She LOVES wedding stationery (and just launched her own collection!)
“I’m designing an invitation collection with Wedding Paper Divas [on sale August 14] and am doing custom ones with them for my own wedding. I think stationery is so important because it sets the stage for the day.”

6. She finds inspiration from other celeb nuptials.
“Victoria Traina’s wedding was sophisticated and upscale, yet so tasteful, classic and chic. Swimsuit designer Tori Praver’s was beachy and whimsical, without being overdone.”

7. She’s in no rush to walk down the aisle.
“My father passed away a year ago and we’ve been going back and forth with the notion of even planning anything. I want it to be an amazing day and to celebrate, but something big will be missing.”

Escort cards are extremely easy to personalize and an excellent way to bring in your wedding day colors -- from calligraphed seating cards set atop a textured linen to apples tagged with each guest's name or small personalized bundles of lavender tied off with string. Other ways to display escort cards: Pin them to a clothesline, post them on a board covered in color-coordinated ribbon, or incorporate them into your cocktail hour using personalized stirrers tagged with guests' names.
