Bill Murray Gave This Bachelor Party Some Awesome Advice

Bill Murray: Irish Examiner / TheKnot.com Irish Examiner

It’s not a true bachelor party until Bill Murray joins it, right? Thanks to a little persistence, groom-to-be EJ and his buddies picked up some insightful wisdom during their celebration from the famously deadpan Academy Award nominee. Told to Deadspin (and recorded on video), one of EJ’s friends, Stephen, recounted how he got Bill to talk to them:

“Over Memorial Day weekend, 20 of my buddies from Boston College got together in Charleston for our friend EJ’s bachelor party. At one point during dinner at a steak house, one guy goes to the bathroom downstairs and sees Bill Murray sitting with some people with a fishing vest on. We talked to the waiter to see if we could send him some drinks, to which Bill declined. One of my buddies then went down and asked if he’d come up and say a few words for EJ and got a ‘No thanks.’ My buddy comes back up dejected and tells us it’s not going to happen. Two minutes later, Bill f**king Murray walks into the room and gives this speech.”

So what did Bill, known for his zany wit, say to them?

“You know how they say funerals are for the dead, not for the living? Bachelor parties are not for the groom, they’re for the unmarried.”

Well, you get what you ask for! He continued with his audience hanging on his every word:

“If you have someone that you think is the one … take that person and travel around the world. Buy a plane ticket for the two of you to travel all around the world and go to places that are hard to go to and hard to get out of. And … when you land at JFK and you’re still in love with that person, get married.”

Bill Murray, you win. Do you speak at bachelorette parties too?

Escort cards are extremely easy to personalize and an excellent way to bring in your wedding day colors -- from calligraphed seating cards set atop a textured linen to apples tagged with each guest's name or small personalized bundles of lavender tied off with string. Other ways to display escort cards: Pin them to a clothesline, post them on a board covered in color-coordinated ribbon, or incorporate them into your cocktail hour using personalized stirrers tagged with guests' names.
