We’re Obsessed With This Couple’s Wedding Handshake (Watch!)

Handshake: Christina Bernales / TheKnot.com Christina Bernales

Sealing wedding vows with a kiss has just been one-upped by Alexis Tyler and Tomy Szczypiorski, a couple who incorporated a little something extra into their Vermont ceremony.

When Tomy took Alexis to Poland to meet some of his extended family three years ago, one of his nine-year-old relatives taught the couple a handshake that’s popular with Polish children.

“Alexis was the first significant other of mine to ever meet my extended family,” Tomy told The Huffington Post. “I always told myself that it wasn’t until I met ‘the one’ that I would bring that person to Poland to introduce her to our family’s roots. This simple little handshake was a great way to remember such a special time in our lives.”

From then on, they freestyled a bit with the handshake and made it their own, adding a new step for every big occasion they experienced in life together.

“We knew that we would have to add a step for our wedding day, and what better way to end our new handshake than with a kiss!” Tomy says. “Our wedding kiss is now our eleventh step! It will be a great way to remember our wedding day and everything it represented for us.”

I have to say, it’s even cuter and sweeter than Lindsay Lohan and her butler’s handshake in The Parent Trap. And for tradition’s sake, yes, their ceremony did end with a kiss.

Escort cards are extremely easy to personalize and an excellent way to bring in your wedding day colors -- from calligraphed seating cards set atop a textured linen to apples tagged with each guest's name or small personalized bundles of lavender tied off with string. Other ways to display escort cards: Pin them to a clothesline, post them on a board covered in color-coordinated ribbon, or incorporate them into your cocktail hour using personalized stirrers tagged with guests' names.
