See How This NYC Couple Pulled Off Southern Charm In Charleston

It all started with brunch in Manhattan—or at least that’s what Megan and Rad’s friends will tell you. “Everyone there that day still says they saw the immediate sparks between us,” Megan explains. Despite being attached to other people at the time, both Megan and Rad knew they’d found someone special that day and began dating soon after.

Three years later on a romantic vacation in Mexico, Rad got down on one knee on a private, moonlit beach in Playa del Carmen—and Megan said, “Yes!”

Though the two live in NYC now (and own a company together!), Megan knew the wedding had to take place in her home state of South Carolina in grand Southern fashion. The couple threw an elegant garden party event that combined their cosmopolitan tastes with famous Southern hospitality. Lace table runners, silver candelabras draped with crystal, peony and dahlia blooms by Sara York Grimshaw, and hanging chandeliers against the backdrop of the old oak trees at Legare Waring House in Charleston, SC created a chic look. “We were looking for something romantic, formal and intimate that offered an entirely outdoor experience,” Megan said. “The dramatic oak trees set the stage perfectly for the vintage-romance feel we were going for.” At the end of the night, everyone danced the foxtrot to the big band stylings of Tennesee group, The Business. Philip Casey of Studio 1250 captured the whole day below and here.

Escort cards are extremely easy to personalize and an excellent way to bring in your wedding day colors -- from calligraphed seating cards set atop a textured linen to apples tagged with each guest's name or small personalized bundles of lavender tied off with string. Other ways to display escort cards: Pin them to a clothesline, post them on a board covered in color-coordinated ribbon, or incorporate them into your cocktail hour using personalized stirrers tagged with guests' names.
