DIY Vintage Map Votive Candles

For the travel obsessed couple or the getaway destination wedding, these DIY map votives are an easy-to-make and affordable favor idea. They also make cute non-floral table decor for your reception or escort card display. From crafter and stylist Elizabeth Demos and her book Vintage Wedding Style, we bring you the do-in-a-day Vintage Map Votive Candle! Here’s how to make them.

DIY_Divider_Supplies

One 8-1/2″x11″ sheet card stock
50 straight-sided glass votive candleholders, each 2″ wide x 2-1/2″ tall
Vintage maps
50 unscented votive candles
Scissors
Clear tape and glue stick
Pencil

DIY_Divider_HowTo
1. Set the card stock on a flat surface. Lay a candleholder on its side and roll it along the card stock, tracing its path with a pencil. To allow for overlap, add 1/4″ to the length of the tracing. Cut out the template and wrap it around the holder to check for size and fit.

2. Place the template on a map, trace around it with the pencil and cut out the map piece. Repeat to cut the remaining pieces.

3. Secure one end of each cutout to a candleholder with a small piece of tape. Wrap the cutout around the holder and use a glue stick where the ends overlap to conceal the tape. Insert a candle into each holder and you’re done!
