Stephen Colbert Officiated A Wedding

Washington DC couple Mike and Myelin were scheduled to be married at The Jefferson Memorial this weekend, but their wedding was canceled due to the government shutdown. In a hilarious turn of events, Stephen Colbert invited them to get married on last night’s episode of Colbert Report. In a previous episode of his show, Colbert promised viewers to take over any government services that would be suspended during the shutdown. Who knew that the comedian/news anchor is actually an ordained minister? Definitely not us!

The couple were good sports with Stephen Colbert’s antics like Smoky the Bear filling in as the best man and the impromptu bachelorette party. While the wedding was certainly non-traditional — it will definitely make for a memorable story, especially the first dance serenaded by Audra McDonald!

Escort cards are extremely easy to personalize and an excellent way to bring in your wedding day colors -- from calligraphed seating cards set atop a textured linen to apples tagged with each guest's name or small personalized bundles of lavender tied off with string. Other ways to display escort cards: Pin them to a clothesline, post them on a board covered in color-coordinated ribbon, or incorporate them into your cocktail hour using personalized stirrers tagged with guests' names.
