After Hurricane Sandy, A Dream Wedding In New York City!

Last October, after Hurricane Sandy destroyed Staten Islanders’ Samantha and Chris’ home, the two were forced to spend their savings on home repairs. That’s when plans for a big wedding were put on hold for good. What happened next was a series of events that could be only be described as meant to be. We announced TheKnot.com Dream Wedding Contest in the fall, and the two entered for a chance to win. They didn’t, but they did receive a ton of local newspaper and TV news attention. The story of the couple’s misfortune touched so many local New York City wedding vendors that, together with TheKnot.com, vendors rallied together around Samantha and Chris to help them pull off the wedding they’d been dreaming of. The result? A romantic wedding ceremony First Presbyterian Church in Rutherford, NJ followed by a glam reception held at the newly renovated Affinia Manhattan ballroom this last Saturday, June 1! Samantha looked gorgeous in a strapless wedding gown by Amsale, attended by her five bridesmaids in long coral bridesmaid dresses. To pull together all the stunning details, Tracy Taylor Ward (with the help of Flowerful Events) lent her eye for design to pull off the pretty gold and coral reception where the couple danced all night with family and friends thanks to DJ Rock City. See all the photos shot by John Arcara Photography from their big day below!

Escort cards are extremely easy to personalize and an excellent way to bring in your wedding day colors -- from calligraphed seating cards set atop a textured linen to apples tagged with each guest's name or small personalized bundles of lavender tied off with string. Other ways to display escort cards: Pin them to a clothesline, post them on a board covered in color-coordinated ribbon, or incorporate them into your cocktail hour using personalized stirrers tagged with guests' names.
