Any data per state or metro area?
wow, these stats are actually very surprising. i’m happy to know that most of the components of our wedding were below average spending!! we spent waaaay above average for wedding overall because of how large our wedding was, but this information is great.
Makes me feel a little better about us spending $10,000 on ours. Some of those prices seem outrageous! The only thing thats close to accurate is our wedding cake, DJ and favors. Phew`
wow! talk about outrageous. for us so far is reception & ceremony=$1000, engagement ring= $549, Reception/ Ceremony DJ= $750, photographer= $300, Wedding gown was $549, favors= $175. no wedding planner, no videographer, My step sister is making our cake, invitations are $265, catering is $18 a head, rehearsal dinner is at my fiances house and we haven’t gotten to the florist or formal wear for him yet. We’ve only spent about $5,000 so far. our budget is $11,500 I think 28 grand is a bit excessive
wooow, Brandy… would love to see your wedding pics for $300!!! … lol
Yeah, Our photographer is only charging $700 and she does amazing work. You don’t need to spend $1,000 + to have great pictures.
It’d be good to know the average number of guests.
Would be interested to know what comprises the venue costs? Are catering and alcohol separate?
Reblogged this on The Foulkrod-Olson Blog.
well Jan, one of my photographer friends is doing it, and shes actually very good. It’s nice to have friends who have talent and are willing to help with our budget

If you add up all the subtotals it far exceeds the 28,427 number. How was that number calculated?
$28,000 is ridiculous. So is $10,000 for that matter. Why spend that much money on a wedding when you could use it as a down payment for a house or a car?
My husband and I eloped to the mountains and had the most stress-free, relaxing wedding ever (and when I say “eloped”, I mean we REALLY eloped – nobody knew about the wedding and nobody was invited to it. We contacted our families and friends the day after we were married in order to share the good news). The costs were as follows:
Marriage license fees: $80.00
Cabin with fireplace: $420.00 for the weekend
Wedding rings: $100.00 for both (we bought them at a jewelry shop in the small mountain town we were staying in)
Marriage commissioner fees: $200.00
Witness fees: $100.00 total (we had two witnesses that the M.C. brought with her since two witnesses must be present to witness the ceremony and sign the register)
Dinner and dessert after the wedding: $150.00
Champagne and chocolates: $100.00
Meals for the rest of the weekend (since we arrived on a Friday evening and stayed until Sunday afternoon): $120.00
$1270.00 total. And we even have a couple of really good photos of the ceremony that we weren’t expecting (one of the witnesses took photos for us, even though neither of us was concerned about having a photographer present). We stood on the shore of a beautiful river in the mountains in our hiking clothes for the ceremony, then spent the afternoon sitting outside sharing cake, laughter, kisses, and a mutual enjoyment of the mountain scenery. We had supper, went back to the cabin, and crawled into bed together at 8:00 p.m. (how lucky were we?
). We slept in until 10:00 a.m. the next day, and I simply cannot imagine a better way for us to have gotten married

I’d be interested in the MEDIAN price of a wedding. Extravagant weddings will skew the average. I think these published prices are part of the reason so many young couples don’t bother marrying. Don’t think they CAN. Same goes for the expectation for outlandish proposals. If it’s not YouTube worthy, it’s a reflection of your relationship. Bah. Married for 40 years for little $$. Later a wedding photographer for wide range of ceremonies, from the simple to the stupid. Save your money for the marriage, not the wedding.

Did your survey this year include the most popular wedding month? I know that it was included in last year’s study. I’m asking because I’m writing an article for my health insurance client about mid-year election changes to plans and was looking for some wedding stats to support June/July time frame.
Thanks for your help.

I planned my entire wedding in NY for less than 10 grand. i think it was close to $7,000 or a bit less. but I had a non traditional wedding. my ceremony was at a park and the reception was at a temple’s party hall. it was beautiful. i dont believe in paying almost $50000 on a wedding just for one day. its like you’re spending more than what you’re getting back in gifts. and it should be the opposite. lol. anyways, no one believes how much i spent. it was beautiful. which made me want to start my own party planning business. There are other brides out there like me. i know it. email me for info. partyplanningnow2@gmail.com
