Our dream honeymoon is a two week cruise that begins in Istanbul and ends in Barcelona. We'd like to add one or two days in Istanbul before it begins, and one or two in Barcelona when we get there, before flying home. And (of course) we'd like our transatlantic flight to be first class or business class each way. Because of the cost of this honeymoon, we're saving up for it for the year after our wedding, and doing it as a one year anniversary trip. For our wedding weekend, we're staying at the hotel an extra night and doing a sort of 'mini-moon,' where we have been given a free upgrade to a harbor view suite in our selected hotel because of our group booking (paying $150 per night instead of $550 per night.)

I suggest brides and grooms look into their local tourist bureau or chamber of commerce for their wedding area. I got this rate after working with the Baltimore tourism bureau, and after getting bids sent to my e-mail where all the local downtown hotels were competing to get my account - far less work than me contacting all of them, and as they knew I was getting 30 or so bids - they all offered discounts and perks (reduced parking and free in-room wi-fi were two other perks the hotel we selected granted us...plus they have a heated indoor pool and an amazing lobby for our pre-wedding photos).

Besides getting this great hotel deal, I also got the Tourism office to send me FREE:

100 maps of downtown Baltimore
100 discount brochures about 3 day tour packets
100 brochures about local historic attractions and
100 mini area guides with restaurants, shopping, etc.

Not only can I send these in my 'save the date,' but I can put them in our welcome packets for when guests arrive (along with chocolates or mints, goldfish crackers or biscotti, wetnaps, welcome letters, two or three postcards of Baltimore stuff, mini sunscreen, mini bug spray, bottled water, and Old Bay Seasoning [the Baltimore staple])

Check out:

Oceania Cruises (they have luxury cruises and include free RT overseas airfare)

&

Baltimore's Royal Sonesta Harbor View -

if you want to learn more about either of the above.
