A Half-Century Of Elizabeth Taylor Weddings
Since last night’s premier of Lifetime’s Liz & Dick with Lindsay Lohan, we can’t stop talking about the late great Elizabeth Taylor who remains the reigning queen of style, Hollywood glamour, and, of course, weddings! Taylor married eight times during her lifetime to seven different men (she married Richard Burton twice!) and each wedding was different than the next.
Wedding #1: Conrad "Nicky" Hilton, 1950-1951Paris Hilton's great-uncle wed Elizabeth Taylor when she was only 18-years-old. The marriage lasted 205 days (that's still longer than Kim Kardashian's). Taylor wore a traditional white A-line gown with an off-the-shoulder neckline and accessorized with a pearl tiara and pearl necklace for her Beverly Hills wedding. The young Taylor's first wedding would be the most traditional of her eight weddings.
Wedding # 2: Michael Wilding, 1952-1957After her divorce from Nicky Hilton, the silver screen starlet wed Michael Wilding, an English actor, in London. Her outfit choice for the simple civil ceremony was decidedly demure compared to the over-the-top fashion choices Liz would be known for.
Wedding #3: Michael Todd, 1957-1958For her wedding to film and Broadway producer Michael Todd, she had two ceremonies one in Acapulco, Mexico and a civil ceremony in Spain. Todd also proposed with a 29.4 carat emerald cut diamond ring!
Wedding #4: Eddie Fisher, 1959-1964The black and white film star wasn't shy when it came to color. The emerald green tea-length gown Taylor donned for her wedding to singer Eddie Fisher is a reminder that Taylor was one of the best dressed women of the century.
Wedding #5: Richard "Dick" Burton, 1964 – 1974Dick Burton (played by Grant Bowler in Liz & Dick) is said to have been Liz's one true love. The couple met on the set of Taylor's hit film Cleopatra After a decade of marriage they divorced only to be wed again. Liz donned a short yellow shift, an oversized flower crown and long braid. The wedding took place in Montreal just 9 days after her divorce from Eddie Fisher.
Wedding #6: Richard Burton, 1975-1976For their second wedding Liz and Dick tied the knot in Kasane Botswana. Taylor donned a non-traditional flowing green dress and Burton dressed in a casual turtleneck and slacks.
Wedding #7: John Warner, 1976-1982This time around, Taylor ditched the big screen for politics when choosing her 6th husband, the former Senator John Warner. For the December wedding Taylor wore a fur cuffed coat and matching turban for a dramatic flare.
Wedding #8: Larry Fortensky, 1991-1996Fortensky was Taylor's last husband. They wed at Michael Jackson's Neverland Ranch as Taylor and MJ were longtime friends. Taylor went with a more traditional look with an off-the-shoulder floor-length lace gown. Taylor's larger-than-life permed 'do rivaled Fortensky's fluffed up mullet for most 90s hairstyle.
